  1. Are outside beverages allowed?
    No outside food, beverage or coolers are allowed at the River City Racin' event. A wide variety of vendors will offer food and beverage for every taste at the event. Many of the vendors are local student groups and community organizations.
  2. Are pets allowed at the event?
    Sorry, no pets of any kind are allowed on the event site.
  3. How do I buy tickets?
    The easiest way to purchase event tickets is right here on this website. Weekend passes will be also be available at the following locations: Chamberlain-Oacoma Area Chamber of Commerce, Shields Embroidery & Design, Chamberlain/Oacoma Sun and Michelle's American Creek Restaurant.
  4. How do I watch the event from the water?
    Special requirements have been established in order to promote the safety of this event for both the racers and spectators. Please refer to the boater information page on this website, on the maps and directions tab. Please review the rules and regulations. American Creek Marina boat ramp will be closed on Saturday June 19 & Sunday June 20. All public access boats will be directed to the Cedar Shore Resort marina and boat ramp in Oacoma or the Dude Ranch boat ramp south of Oacoma.
  5. How fast can the boats go?
    Hydroplanes are exciting to watch because of their potentially record-breaking speeds. Current ULHRA speed records are held by driver Greg Hopp for both qualifying lap speed (126.528 mph) and competition heat speed at (119.443 mph).
  6. What are hydroplanes?
    Hydroplanes are high powered watercraft used specifically for boat racing. They use the water beneath them for propulsion and steering and plane over the water to reach maximum speed. Hydroplanes designed with two sponsons in front and a narrow cockpit area for the driver and engine.
  7. What else can I do there?
    Aside from the exciting hydroplanes, event goers can see a variety of land-side entertainment including musicians, the Sanford Children’s Play Zone and the annual Laker's Car Club Mighty Mo Car and Bike Show. American Creek Park features playground equipment and a beach area for the entire family.
  8. What is a Party Pod?
    Party Pods are a designated space marked off in a premier viewing area for your group to enjoy during the weekend. The $400 Party Pod fee includes 15 weekend passes and is a great option for families or businesses wanting to provide a "home base" for your group during the event. You're encouraged to bring your own lawn chairs and a tent or pop-up cover to provide shade. No coolers are allowed on to the event site and your pod must be cleaned and left as you found it at the conclusion of the event or pod purchase will be denied in the future.
  9. What is River City Racin’?
    River City Racin', Inc. (RCR) is a non-profit organization formed in 2007 to create, manage and present the Pepsi Racing Cup Challenge each year, one of the Midwest’s largest sanctioned unlimited light hydroplane racing events. The RCR Board of Directors consists of an all volunteer group of business and community members dedicated to providing an event for the economic benefit of the Chamberlain/Oacoma community and it's surrounding communities with the assistance of the SD Department of Tourism.
  10. What is the ULHRA?
    The Unlimited Light Hydroplane Racing Association (ULHRA) is the fastest growing hydroplane racing organization in North America. The ULHRA currently has three major classes of racing craft: the Unlimited Lights, the North American Challenge Cup series (Thunderboats), and the Lighter than Light series.
  11. When and where is the event?
    The Pepsi Racing Power Cup Challenge presented by River City Racin’ is held on the Missouri River in Chamberlain-Oacoma, SD at American Creek Park and Campground. The two-day event will be held on June 19-20, 2010.
